I have updated my MacBook with latest version software but I can’t do the installation, I get the error that says “Installation failed – Couldn’t install the software”. There is a number of things that cause these problems. Let’s take a look for the solution for the problem.
1. RESTART MAC
Why can't I install software on my Mac? On more recent versions of Mac OS X, you may be unable to install software such as programs you have downloaded from the Sussex website. Since Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion), the default option for Macs has been to install only software that has been approved by Apple.
- Most importantly, MacBook needs Proper Restart to install the software.
- Press and Hold the Power button to Turn Off and Press again the Power button to Turn On the Macbook.
2. CHECK THE SETTINGS
- Open Mac Menu -> System Preferences.
- Select Security & Privacy.
- Check the App store and identified developer check-box is Enabled in Allow Apps downloader from.
- If it is not Enabled, Enable it.
3. SWITCH TO WIRED CONNECTION
- Most of the times, WiFi Connection may give an issue to connect with the network in MacOS software, it may be a problem with the Router or the Network provider is down.
- So, try to Connect the Mac to Wired connection.
- After connecting to the Wired Network, Go to Downloads -> Cancel the Software update/ delete it.
- Restart your MacBook and give download and update again.
4. RESET NVRAM
- Reset the NVRAM, It allows the devices to recover from the instability issues.
- Hold and Press Command + Option (Alt) + P + R, these four keys to Reset the NVRAM ( Non- Volatile Random Access Memory) and restart the Macbook.
- Now, the MacBook will restart normally with a complete installation of the Software.
5. RESET Mac SMC
- In some situations, We need to Reset Mac SMC (System Management Controller) this helps to recover the data and moving on the Reinstall the MacOS.
- If you have a Non- Removable Battery, then Hold and Press Shift + Ctrl + Option (Alt) + Power Button and then Turn On the Mac.
- If you have a Removable Battery, then remove and insert the battery from your MacBook.
Hopefully, you also have got enough data from your Mac and continue working on your New Mac.

After doing some research online, it seemed I had to perform a Software Update since the driver for my HP printer was supported by Apple. I performed a software update, but there was nothing to update! So now I was pretty confused as to what I should do. Luckily, I was able to figure it out, but it does take a few steps to get your printer properly installed on OS X.
Firstly, you have to manually download the printer driver package for your printer brand from Apple. You can see a list of all the printers supported by Apple on this page:
First make sure your printer is actually listed there because if it isn’t, then you won’t be able to install the printer on OS X no matter how hard you try. Your only other option at this point is to check the manufacturer’s website and see if they have a Mac driver you can download that maybe isn’t included in the Apple driver package yet.
If your printer is listed there, then you need to download the driver package and install it. It would have been nice if they had links directly from that page to the driver packages, but they don’t. Download the DMG and install it on your Mac. Once you have installed it, go ahead and restart your computer. Now we have to reset the printing system and then reinstall the printers. To reset the printing system, click on the Apple logo and then click on System Preferences.
Now click on Print & Scan under the Hardware sub-heading:
Now in a white area in the list of printers box, go ahead and right-click. A menu will pop up and the only option is to Reset Printing System.
Note that resetting the printing system will remove all the printers from your computer.
